Emilie Mathian has successfully defended her PhD thesis after three years of hard work within the RCG team under the supervision of Matthieu Foll, Lynnette Fernandez Cuesta and Liming Chen. This multidisciplinary thesis focuses on rare lung neuroendocrine tumours and deep learning, benefiting from the computer vision expertise of Liming Chen’s IMAGINE team. This work highlighted the strengths and limitations of the current classification of lung neuroendocrine tumours and the ability of deep learning to discriminate the molecular profiles obtained from multi-omics analyses, carried out by Alexandra Sexton-Oates and Nicolas Alcala. This last discovery opens new avenues towards a new morpho-molecular classification of these tumours, which she will continue to explore during a post-doc in the team!
We would like to thank all the pathologists working on the lungNENomics cohort, and in particular Sylvie Lantuejoul and Francesca Damiola, for their invaluable help throughout this study.
